Redierment Home

Atticus is now the head of the satanists' coven and has Jenny prisoner. The gang go to save her, but are faced with ravenous zombie old folks.

TODD AND THE BOOK OF PURE EVIL is back and immediately goes all out for the lowest form of humour, in this case having the only way for the old people to get rid of the evil within them through defecation after the application of industrial strength laxative.

Bad taste like this could be accepted if it was funny, but there really is nothing to raise a smile.

Top

The Student Body

A girl with no friends uses the book to tie new friends to her physically just as Todd decides he must quit his friends in order to save them.

The loneliness of the friendless in High School is nothing new to consider and this episode adds nothing to those considerations. It's clumsy, unfunny and only has one moment of grossness for its low-brow fans.

Top

Daddy Tissues

Now out of his coma, Jenny's father wants to run the gang, but finds nobody will accept his advice. Until he finds the book, that is.

Considering that Jenny spent the whole first season looking for her father, the speed with which he is kicked out of the picture is surprising. The finale in what looks like a generator station is more epic than the show is used to. Unfortunately, everything else is the same old Todd schtick.

Top

Simply The Beast

Cheerleaders go missing and Todd's fantasy comes true when Jenny goes undercover in a cheerleader's outfit.

The gullibility of some people is examined when Todd and Curtis mention a beast and it is immediately received wisdom. That's about as close to meaningful as this story gets, though the solution as to what has happened to the cheerleaders is a nice touch.

Top

Jungle Fever

Nobody in Crowley High cares about the environment, so the lone earth-lover uses the book to revert everyone to a prehistoric time of unspoilt nature.

Apart from the fact that Hannah doesn't turn primeval because of some effect the book is having on her, there is nothing here at all that is interesting or even remotely funny. It's just a bit desperate.

Top

Fisting Fantasy

When Todd and Curtis kill a fellow student in an online fantasy game, he takes revenge by placing hte gang inside a real-life fantasy game.

This tired old premise is hardly spiced up by the sight of Atticus as a snake monster or ... anything else really. It's as lame as the game they are forced to play and having a muppet in the middle doesn't help.

Top

See You Later, Masturbator

Todd and the gang struggle to catch an invisible peeping tom who has gotten their friend the janitor fired.

Just when you think that this show can't get any more base it comes up with peeing into drinks, defecating on desks and lots and lots of semen jokes. All of which would be forgiveable if it was funny. It's not.

Top

Loser Generated Content

Todd destroys the school's AV equipment and so the AV club (both of them) use the book to start directing his life their way.

There's actually an interesting concept at the heart of the this episode which sees people crushed by screen wipes and sliced in half by split screens and the script is even low on the usual slew of lowest denominator gross out gags, choosing instead to rely on a steady supply of body parts.

Top

Deathday Cake

A member of a religious sect that doesn't celebrate birthdays uses the book to create a cake that eats people and gives her the combined pleasure of all their past birthdays. Curtis is next.

The cake is pathetic, the plot is dull, the humour isn't funny as well as being lowest common denominator and the gore isn't that funny either. TODD AND THE BOOK OF PURE EVIL is even more pointless than usual.

Top

2 Girls, 1 Tongue

Charlotte uses the book to replace Hannah in the lives of everyone. Todd finds a new girl and Jenny is jealous. And it's all done to music.

Now here is something that we never thought we'd say - this episode was awesome!!

No, we haven't lost our minds and yes, the musical episode has been done several times before (most significantly in BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER episode Once More With Feeling), but the idea works brilliantly with this show and the tunes are pretty good (assuming that rock and heavy metal don't make you want to vomit, of course).

Sure, the show's lowest common denominator gross out stuff is present as well, but it's presented so inventively that it really doesn't matter.

Much to our surprise, Todd pulls one off (if you'll pardon the phrase).

Top

BYOBOPE

Todd and Curtis take steps to lose their virginity at a house party just in time to find out that a virgin can't become the pure evil one.

And we're back to the lowest common denominator humourless pap that is TODD AND THE BOOK OF PURE EVIL and it feels even worse after the last, brilliant episode. There are vomit jokes, boner jokes, sex jokes and lots of stuff borrowed from AMERICAN PIE, except that none of it is funny in the slightest.

Top

The Toddysey

Todd is transported into the future to find Hannah on the side of the evil powers led by Atticus, Curtis a broken man and Jenny a one-eyed freedom fighter.

For the second time, TODD AND THE BOOK OF PURE EVIL actually brings in an impressive episode, creating a fun future world based on the show's mythology and telling a story that isn't submerged under a welter of knob jokes for a change.

Top

Black Tie Showdown

Atticus gains the book and turns himself into the Pure Evil One, beginning his reign of terror at the end of term dance.

It's the final episode of the season (and, as it turns out, of the show itself) and the story manages to bring some sort of closure to some of the ongoing plotlines whilst also opening up some new ones for the next season that will not come.

It's almost a shame because the show was starting to mature into something a little less flatulent and a little more interesting than the collection of gross-out bodily fluid gags that it started with.

We said 'almost'.
