Sky - Part 1 Originally transmitted October 3rd 2011

An alien baby is left on Sarah Jane's doorstep, a baby that can blow up all the lightbulbs on the street when it cries. There are two beings after the baby, one who claims to be its mother and the other a metal alien.

The final season starts with a bang, literally, as the impressive metal alien falls to Earth in some pretty good special effects. After that, there's some of the usual 'how do you look after a baby?' panic and some running around trying to find out who is after the baby.

It's a lot to fit into twenty five minutes, so it's run at full pelt, which doesn't leave much time to pick out any holes.

Sky - Part 2 Originally transmitted October 4th 2011

Sky is no longer a baby, but a child who is capable of destroying a whole race. Sarah Jane and her mother struggle over the child's conscience.

As is traditional, all of the plot has been done in the first half and there is just a lot of running around and shouty confrontations and finally a big bang of some sort. In this case, though, it leaves Sarah Jane with a new daughter to take the place of the at school Luke.

It's a disappointing conclusion to an opening that deserved better.

The Curse Of Clyde Langer - Part 1 Originally transmitted October 10th 2011

Whilst visiting a museum, Clyde disturbs a totem pole and finds that everyone turns against him the moment that they hear or see his name. Soon Sarah Jane, Rani and even his mother have turned against him.

The fear of rejection is one of a child's greatest one and this story taps into it perfectly. It starts off as a slow burn, but picks up its pace an deftly sees Clyde's world come apart around his ears, leaving him on the street, alone and friendless. Now that's real horror.

The cast all get to play angry and hateful and Daniel Anthony gets to show a little vulnerability under all that cockiness. This is the kind of thing that this show does so very well.

The Curse Of Clyde Langer - Part 2 Originally transmitted October 11th 2011

Clyde tries to come to terms with life on the streets and even finds tentative romance with the girl who helps him. Sky, meanwhile, tries to break through to Sarah Jane and Rani who are both fighting back against the curse.

There is more plot and less running around than is usual for the second part of a SARAH JANE ADVENTURES story and that's all to the good. It is also very unfortunate that the show introduces what would appear to be a plot arc that is destined never to be concluded since it is quite an intriguing one.

The resolution of the main plot, is more conventional and less interesting than we might have hoped for, but the rest of the episode more than makes up for that.

The Man Who Never Was - Part 1 Originally transmitted October 17th 2011

Serf Industries is launching the Serfboard computer, which it claims will revolutionise the world. Luke and Sky are more interested in the fact that Mr Serf would appear to be a hologram of sorts.

This is a sloppy episode that starts off well enough, but introduces too many silly plot points. Since Serf is an unreliable hologram why would they schedule a rehearsal and invite the press? Why would they allow Luke to wander around the site when his mother went home? Why would they allow a one-on-one interview with Sarah Jane when it would be a lot easier to just imprison her?

The interview with Sarah Jane trying to prove Serf's limitations is fun and the low-tech engine room of the hologram is also different enough to be fun, but this is aimed more at the younger end of its audience spectrum and suffers a bit as a result.

The Man Who Never Was - Part 2 Originally transmitted October 24th 2011

The truth behind the Serfboard, and the company head, is revealed. The team work to free some prisoners and escape alive.

The death of Elisabeth Sladen made this the last ever episode of THE SARAH JANE ADVENTURES and the makers have given it an ending that few who loved the character and the show will be able to face without tears. It is a fitting tribute to her as a role model for generations.

The actual plot still isn't the greatest and there is the usual amount of running around, but you just can't get away from the sadness of seeing an icon on screen for that last time.
